I am building a multipurpose PC. It needs to be able to play modern games like Starcraft 2 and Skyrim as well as compile code quickly and run virtual machines (sometimes more than one at a time).

Case: Fractal Design R4

HDD: 1TB Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM

SDD: Samsung 840 Pro

GPU: GTX 660 TI

RAM: 16GB 1600mhz crucial ballistic ram (2*8)

I don't know about my CPU though. With Haswell coming out in a couple of weeks, compared to the eight core AMD......

What would be the better processor for some multitasking and gaming?

Thanks for reading

Yes, even for multitasking. There are very few applications where the 8350 is better than the 3770K, with virtual machines NOT being one of them. Due to the fact that each Piledriver module shares a fetch and decode path, it doesnt operate up to being a full "8 cores".

If budget is an issue, then the 8350 will still perform amazingly, but the 3770K is better in this department if you can afford the premium.
