Gaming at 1280x1024.

Hi, I am having a bit of trouble with picking a graphics card to go with my current resolution which is 1280x1024.Now I was originally going to get a hd 7850 but have been told that at my current resolution that it would be overkill as it's not 1080 gaming.My question would be would I be able to get away with a hd7770 for games like battlefield 3,crysis,arma 3 and planetside 2 at very high settings or will the 7850 be fine? I was thinking for futerproofing as well.Also I was told at my resolution that getting a 2gb card would be a waste of money too, is this true?
My cpu is an i3 3220 which I understand is not the greatest for battlefield 3 ect but I plan on upgrading at some point in the future so is not an issue.

7850 would be future proof. You'll be able to get away with a 7770 now but in the future it may cause a bit pain if you think of playing games at all high.
1GB would be fine.
