My laptops been crashing a lot with absolutely no warning or reasoning, seemingly at random, but I think I found the cause. My CPU temps spike to about 149 Celsius for less than a second, and then returns to it's original temperature of about 50-60 Celsius.

Windows 7 64 Home Premium.
CPU: i7 Q720 1.6GHz
GPU: GeForce GT 230M
RAM: 6GB, although I swear it was 8. Could easily be wrong.

I've also updated all drivers and bios. It also hasn't BSOD'd and the GPU temp is stable.

The reason it is shutting down is because of those temp spikes, typically most rigs will shut down in they go over a certain temp, usually in the 100 C range. As for it spiking for that short of a period of time its most likely a faulty temp meter. I have never hear of temps that high, for that short a period of time.
