I would hope just asking this question would disqualify you permanently, as being a moderator should certainly have nothing to do with pointless badges and should not be handed out to random people who just want it. But what do I know.
You could just try and be helpful without worrying about what it gets you. You know. Like the rest of us you so badly want to moderate.

If we like your attitude, a moderator (ie. not me) will recommend you to the board of moderators for promotion.
The board will deliberate and decide whether you are worthy or not.
Some users will never be a moderator.
If they deem you worthy you get referred as a candidate to Joe, our community manager.
If he approves it you become a moderator.

Well usually he just agrees with our judgements. I usually abstain from voting and just maintain the Linux forum.
LOL that seems so ABSTINENT... I am assuming you do not vote for a president either(unless you live in a monarchy obviously)...
Australia is part of the Commonwealth, so technically a monarchy.
Voting is compulsory, but I have a good idea about what I'm voting for.
Being the Linux moderator, I don't encounter the people suggested to be moderators, so I abstain.
The Linux section never needs any more mods. So quiet down there.

Wait??? Compulsory in Aus? To vote for a prime minister? Hmmmm...
And yes, Linux would be quiet. LOL not my forte either.

It was just for fun and I do appreciate all of the chatter, more than what I usually get for my other inane Questions.
It is good to see that one can actually attain the level of a Moderator but I think I get too many argumentative replies to my "solutions" so I doubt that I would ever be able to enter the realm of Moderator.

SONIC RAINBOOMYou kidding me? You went from a possible Rainbow to THAT???
I'm glad you like it. *Awkward silence*
I'm not allowed to use anything I didn't draw as my avatar. It's a tradition.
It comes from a long history of self-made amdfangirl avatars:

Well at least there is incremental improvement(de ja vu of a recent review), at this rate you can draw Rainbow half decently in about... 10years???

Except it will be in my style and everything looks different in my style.

Bronies won't like my style (proven fact) because it's different - everything I draw is different from the source material.
Most of those avatars are from 2008-2010. Now I do less art, but it's higher quality.
(Unless I draw photorealism - I hate photorealism)
