Is there a way to install linux on a HP iPAQ 100

That's a really old device...

I remember wanting one when I was 11?

I would say no because I don't know any Linux distros or Linux software for that matter that can provide the GUI interface for you to interact with it properly.

A better choice as a first Linux device I'd say would be a Raspberry Pi.

I assume the OP can afford one if I can (does say a lot about the state of my finances).
