sounds like youd need to throw everything out and keep the HDD and that disk drive, lol.

I also upgraded similar computer few weeks back. I recommend good graphic card like GTX550Ti or HDx850. Now its hard to find new procesor for LGA775 socket. I bought used one Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4Ghz. I also upgraded to 4GB DDR2 RAM. And at last new Power Supply - I think some Corsair CX430M...
I paid around 200€ for this with shipping included.
70€ for GTX550Ti (used)
40€ for Q6600 (used)
50€ for Corsair CX430M (new)
20€ for RAM stick (new)
Now i got system able to run Battlefield on med-high settings on good resolutions if that mean something to you. What games do you want to play?

i really wouldnt recommend buying DDR2 and a CPU that outdated.
he never mentioned being on a tight budget.

Then you better buy new computer... If you upgrade MOBO you need to upgrade RAM and CPU. Graphic card is essential for gaming. I think that if you have stock PSU won't be enough so you'll need to buy better one.

If you are low on budget replace graphic card and procesor.
If you are ready to spend a bit more try specs i wrote.
If money isn't problem then you can left the case, hard drive, DVD-ROM. Then replace other components.

I suggest intel i5 procesor and some gtx 650ti or 660ti or if you preffer
Radeon i would go for hd7850 or 7870. Depends on games you play.
Then 4 or 8 gb ddr3 ram. With all these you'll need good and
Quality power suply. Best power supply brands are seasonic
Antec or corsair. I think 600w.
