Hey,

I have a new build with a Gigabyte GA-Q77M-D2H, and am using a previously working SSD that has dual boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu.

I know both will boot from a laptop it was in, but once in the new desktop only Ubuntu will boot, and Windows 7 just bluescreens and will not repair itself (Says windows is unable to repair after startup repair runs).

Any ideas?

I couldnt actually get into BIOS before it crashes. Im guessing its because when installed into the laptop there are some windows drivers that are now incompatible with the new Motherboard?

Im going to just put a clean install of windows on and try it again.

Ok, but how come setting SATA to IDE would work if its a SATA drive?

Also is it possible it is windows drivers I downloaded for the other motherboard in the laptop causing the issue? The drive is currently busy copying files so cant actually test it for a bit but I will try getting into the BIOS before re-installing.

If Windows was installed with SATA set to IDE on the laptop, then Windows can't use the SATA driver when loading with SATA set to AHCI, therefore the blue screens.
Try googling for IDE vs AHCI for more info.
