Hello

Ive got an HP pavillion 6699uk which Ive just bought new RAM for to upgrade to 16gb from 4gb ( 2 x 2gb) the new stuff is corsair XMS3 and was reccomended by cordsair themselves as the correct one. When installed nothing happens and it wont even boot any more. Ive tried putting just one of the 4gb cards in and it will boot but then quickly shuts down. the motherboard is a MSI MS-7613 (Iona-GL8E) which i understand is HP specific.

Any ideas of what to try. the BIOS is very limited, but I was thinking maybe it could be a voltage thing???

ANy thoughts would be great

Thanks all

First of all, these motherboards are very picky and so is HP. Sometimes though the memory looks compatible it might not work especially these fancy rams like the corsair. The best option would be to go with DDR3 value ram.

"Could you let me know the memory specifications of your new memory?"

Alright, coming to the issue. Try installing the new memory alone in the memory so as to isolate the memory which is defective (which I do not think is the issue, anyway give it a try). Reset your CMOS and try a BIOS update. Then try installing the memory. As you said BIOS is limited with HP, since they do not encourage manual tweaking of BIOS. The max speed that I would like you to try for this system is as of right now will be 1333MHz, if in case there is a BIOS update in the near future then maybe you can try 1600MHz but I don't recommend. If you still experience the problem then try contacting HP and Corsair, ask for some insights. If you do not get any satisfied answers, then return the memory and get a value RAM.

Compatible Value RAM for your HP pavilion!!

Hope everything works out well. Goodluck!! :cheese:
