Yes. Just like you cannot see the CPU because it's blocked from view by the CPU cooler/heat sink, you also cannot see the GPU as it is also blocked by it's own cooler/heat sink.

In the case of cpu's thermal paste is used. The fan is then secured with screws.
In the case of gpu's the black coolig grid appears to be securely fixed. I wonder how it is fixed?
Is the cooling grid designed to be removed?
Is the gpu designed to be removed?

I wonder what the difference is between a cpu and a gpu?
 
With screws, having removed the cooler of a graphics card myself I can tell you there are a lot of them. Look at the back of the card, there should be mounting points at the very least around where the GPU is (you can tell by a dense cluster of electronics).
The GPU is not designed to be interchangeable.

Not much really, ultimately they both crunch numbers. However the GPU is far more suited for parallel processing (Which is why they have a ridiculous number of cores) because thats what benefits rendering software best. They also have various other technologies like shader units.
