Am I the only one not interested at all in these Android gaming consoles???? There are ZERO games that would hold my attention long enough to sit down on a couch and play through. Sure, Android games are great for sitting on a train or on a lunch break at work...but if I'm home I'm going to fire up the PC/Xbox and play AAA games.

I agree, however, I must admit I find the idea of an Android console both fascinating and enticing. I really, really want these things to take off, because then the control will be wrenched away from the likes of Microsoft and Sony and their decade-long console update cycles.

We NEED some competition and variance in this horrible, stagnant gaming marketplace. If an explosion of 'mobile' and smaller-scale 'indie' titles are needed to kick start that and establish some new gaming platforms, then fair enough, bring it on. AAA titles could always follow if the platforms became well established, and we already know the performance of some of these devices is approaching current-gen consoles (and, based on the explosive rate of innovation in the mobile space, will likely soon outpace it and then next-gen consoles a couple of years thereafter).

FYI bluestacks runs like shit on any win7 PC - constantly eating around 1GB of memory just to hold the services open. Also Bluestacks player does not have access to your already installed apps like Google play does. Imo its trash. It needs a helluvalot more work before making a console.

Are all these Android consoles really not going to be compatible with Android software and vice-versa because that is just so stupid then. Why even call them 'Android' consoles then?

Seriously, can it?

I wrote this a while back for someone else, not sure if the links will come through, but you can search for the game names on googleplay and watch the movies. These are very weird links they have over there, but hopefully they lead directly to the games. I could add many more to the list now. This is just the beginning. I guess you don't look at googleplay much :)  I'm waiting for a T4 tablet and my dad has a nexus 10 so I started looking recently for stuff I'd want myself (you know, a good reason to finally buy one...LOL). I'd say I'll be jumping soon. Now I just need the right T4 tablet (Tegrazone has to be in there as NV is pushing mobile gaming a lot and already work with xbox360 controllers etc), for my purchase.

Head to google play and check out some of these games, the 1st two are unreal engine based check out the movies of the games...this is the first freaking wave (not angry birds now):

Note the unreal engine 3 is just kicking off on mobile, a lot more in the pipe. Also Real Boxing and Hawken (hawken is coming, NV showed it running on T4 already).

Modern Combat 1-4:

Make sure you up the video to 1080p... It rocks. This is PRE-T4. These are made for current crap T3 etc...OLD, some even T2 games below.

If this would be true, GPU wouldn't use 200W and more during the load. In share processing power high-end Android devices outperform PS1 and I maybe PS2. If you want real comparison it can run full Bard's Tale game which was made in 2005. So yeah high-end Android devices are on same level as 8 year old mid-range PC.

If SoCs would become more powerful than x86 chips (for some unknown reason, probably breaching speed of light or something), that what would be used in PCs and that gen consoles. Plus Android runs just fine on x86, so the only thing that could happen (would highly doubt) is Android become superior to Windows and Unix for gaming. Nothing to do with chips and power again.

Bards Tale looks better on tablets than ps2 or xbox versions and tablets can output to TV at 720 or 1080p and play with your xbox360 controller. Did you look at the games I linked to already out? Unreal 4 will run on these easily in the next few gens (mark reign of epic has already said this).

Also it seems at least MS used 28nm (not sure yet, need confirmation) and who knows about sony (looks 28nm). Either way you're comparing the wrong numbers. Current consoles are 125w with a HD, bluray etc (a good 20 watts in these two, we'll have to see about nextgen). So take just the soc vs. cpu/gpu of consoles. 2xJaguar is used and xbox1 apu only runs 1.6ghz according to anandtech. We are talking ATOM with a better gpu! Die shrink socs to 20nm (this year), 14nm (2014), 10nm (2016) and consider consoles won't change until 2021-2022. Kepler mobile runs battlefield 3 already! Did you not see their demo recently? Runs fine on Kayla with Kepler mobile (Tegra5, so how freaky fast is t6?). They've already shown the unreal4 engine on it too (that is what ran shield's exploded view demo).

At 10nm they will come with a 128MB cache or more probably further speeding them up, and have HSA type crap too.
http://www.brightsideofnews.com/news/2012/3/14/exclusiv...
NV has already taped out a tegra on 20nm at Samsung, so should be no trouble to do this soon for T5 (next May/June I'd guess just like always) and 16nm is scheduled from TSMC before end of 2014 with mass production (so T6 etc will be 16 or 14nm). They are skipping to 10nm for 2016 (no new process from them in 2015). A 10nm soc will be quite awesome even at 4-8w range. I'd be shocked if there wasn't another shrink from all involved before 2021 (most have 7nm already on roadmaps). Then you have to add in the lower power ram we'll have (again many shrinks), etc and it all adds up to very powerful devices very soon revved YEARLY. Consoles are only aiming at 1080p and 30fps. I guess you missed that.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/6976/amds-jaguar-architec...
At 1.5ghz a 4core is a 15w chip at 2ghz it's 25w. As anand showed for both consoles it's two jaguar cores (so 30w with 256gpu cores and 8cpu) with more gpu cores (3x at 768 for MS more for ps4). I can't see this chip being over 60w or so. Also note xbox1 only has 32mb esram while Intel is already shipping iris pro with 128mb @ 22nm, so you can imagine a 10nm soc and what it has in 2016/2017. Tegra's come with cuda and physx going forward also. TSMC has 3d 3d (yeah, two 3d's...LOL) on the roadmaps for 2016 meaning STACKED chips (3d) with 3D finfet. Consoles meanwhile, will sit in stone for twice the amount of time I'm outlining here that we already know is in the books and on the roadmaps. Tegra's next stop is probably 144cores@20nm, 288@16/14nm and 576@10nm and will be surrounded by better everything in 2016/2017 (so will every other soc) and the gpu's will be even higher counts if concentrating on GPU and ignoring cpu as A15's even are pretty darn good already (3 shrinks would make these VERY potent/low power, no doubt running faster while doing it). PS4 doesn't even have embedded memory (just superfast system bandwidth - remains to be seen who's ends up better overall). This doesn't count any gpu/cpu level improvements either.

I don't think they'll catch ps4 in pure gpu, but I do think by 2016/2017 Tegra will catch xbox1 which is far less than ps4 (1.84tf 1152 cores vs. xbox 1.23tflops 768 cores). I don't think they'll get there just via the gpu; it will be the rest of the surrounding stuff that makes up any slacking figures (faster ram, integrated large caches etc). We're talking Tegra 7 or 8 here (and it's competition). A15 is already at a jaguar 1.6ghz level basically, so they only need to pack the crap out of the gpu for the next 3-4 revs to catch these next gen consoles while shrinking them over and over. I hope you get the idea. And yes, Arm's Cortex53 & 57 are aimed at more than tablets, so there will be a desktop/server war. Also game devs will aim for the 1-2B smart devices for FAR more money than 100mil consoles over the next 3yrs (if they even hit that, I have serious doubts they'll get that - I predict 1/2 last gen sales per year with nobody wanting to make games for them as all head to mobile).

http://www.gsmarena.com/16nm_arm_cortexa57_cpu_ready_to...
3x A15 power without raising watts...Hmm...And if its battery life you're after, the A57 can match the Cortex A15 performance while consuming up to five times less power. Might just happen faster than I said...LOL. But the point is, IT WILL HAPPEN. Even if this is only 1/2 right, A15 is a pig, so cutting it in half would give a lot more to gpu already! Though produced in end 2014, they will land in something in 2015 probably.

If you take into account console release cycle sure it is possible that SoC can overtake consoles. But I'm thinking about current gen as mid-range PC I buy on that day. SoC is APU basically and there is no point making it faster than discreet GPU, it just defeats the purpose. So no - SoC will not overtake same gen gaming PCs. X1 - does anyone even care about it? Not sure why someone with basic knowledge about PC would buy X1. You buy pre-made PC without any PC or console advantages! Like 3 wheel sports car with 0.5l engine

I would think DRM and 24hr check-in is enough to put most off xbox1. Agree there :)  With them being so much like a PC, I'm wondering how many will just upgrade their PC with $400-600 worth of whatever and call it a day. If GTX 760ti (GTX670 but faster and less noise I'd guess based on 680-770 etc) releases at $300 roughly, you can buy a bunch of other crap with the extra cash, or just blow the wad on a gpu only. GTX770 is impressive and if you buy whatever the higher end models of consoles are (they only announce the low models I think) you have enough to probably pick up a GTX780 almost even at $650 and that experience will ROCK vs a console. With PC's already far more powerful today (never mind dual/tri/quad cards) with single cards and pretty good gaming on mobile already and only getting better yearly, I see xbox1 as dead already and PS4 having a pretty hard time too. Especially for anyone with an xbox360 or ps4 already and how long it will take to get a quantity of AAA games out the door on the next gens. Tough sell I think for either.
