Hi

I am currently building a computer for my girlfriend, I used to be a more experienced with this type of thing, but have been busy with school for a while and been out of the loop for the last 3-4 years.

Price range : 1000$ CDN
expected use: productivity (report writing, internetting, etc), gaming (skyrim, tomb raider, etc), ideally would like to use this as a gaming rig for the next 3+ years (no need for ultra setting for future releases, but medium-high would be preferred)
plans to be connected to a monitor and 40ish inch TV

salvageable parts from previous machine
- HDD (green, 2tb seagate)
- optical drive
- monitor, keyboard, mouse
- wireless card (although computer will have a wired connection)

current build (June 3, 2013)
Motherboard: asus p8z77 pro
Cpu : i5 - 3570k
ram : 2 x 4gb corsair vengeance low profile blue
(CML8GX3M2A1600C9B)
Vid card : asus gtx 660
power supply: cx 600m corsair
cooling : cooler master hyper 212 evo
case : nzxt phantom 410

at the moment that comes up to around 900$ cdn

Depending on her need I may consider getting an additional HDD or SSD (likely not ssd)

Hopefully I didnt make any glaring mistakes, or completely miss a part or something.

any input would be much appreciated

Thanks!

Thanks guys, the help is much appreciated

I didnt realize the spec I went with was so dated

I notice that both specs are similar but with different manufacturers

motherboard asus vs gigabyte
vid card evga vs galaxy
etc

I am not too concerned with over clocking, however cooling is a bigger issue, with that in mind are there any substantial differences that a casual user would notice/take advantage of? or is it personal preference/what is cheaper and available

Appreciate the help!
