Radeon HD 5670 only detects one monitor

I have a Radeon HD 5670 graphics card (Win 7 OS) My 1st monitor is connected via HDMI cable. When I add a second monitor via DVI cable my monitor is not detected. If I unplug the HDMI cable then the second monitor is detected (as monitor 1.) Replugging in the HDMI cable disable my second monitor. How do I overcome this?

Just to be sure, you are plugging both into your gpu not one in gpu and one in the integrated graphics. If so with both plugged in hit Windows key+ P until it does to extend. That should bring it to both monitors.
