My build looks like this:
Athlon II X3 455
A decent AM3 motherboard
EVGA GTX 460 1GB, overclocked
8GB DDR3 RAM
630W PSU
1080p monitor
I've got about $300 to spend at the moment, and I'm wondering which would be better: upgrading the CPU (probably to a 3570k) or a newer GPU (looking at a 7870 LE or similar). I'd be okay with an AMD CPU as well, but at the moment it looks like the 3570k could last me much, much longer than a 6300 or even an 8320, unless multi-threaded gaming ever catches on. I should've gone with a Phenom from the start, but it seems like a waste to upgrade now.
I can currently max out most games I play at 30-60 FPS (depending on how CPU-heavy they are), although I only really play games a few years old. I guess I'm looking for the most future-proof option; it'd be kind of annoying to have a much better CPU than GPU, but that's what I'm stuck with.
