Hello,

I'm building my first PC in nearly 7 years. I decided to go with a Haswell Build. I'll be using it for gaming with light video editing.

Purpose: Gaming, Video Editing and Media Server
Budget: $1700-$1800
CPU Overclock: Yes
GPU Overclock: Unlikely

Here's what i came up with so far. Where do I need to improve?

I appreciate your help,

you can do much better
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/13cc0

-more ram is necessary for video editing
-better CPU cooler should allow for higher overclocks
-cheaper but just as good board
-cheaper SSD that performs about as well in real life
-just as good hard drive if not better. only thing is you dont pay a ridiculous fee for warranty
-way better GPU
-better psu. drop to a 550w if you are not going to SLI

Thanks,

I followed some of your suggestions and the build currently looks like this (currently missing the case). I thought I'd wait for a 1 or 2 weeks for more motherboard choices to be available, but I'm hoping to cut some cost from the list. I'd like to stick to the Samsung SSD as I had a very positive experience installing it on a friend's machine.

I was planning a future SLI with the GPU I picked earlier but I doubt that I'll do so with the 780, would a 600W PSU be sufficient in this case?

-the gigabyte board is much better than the msi gd65. and it also costs less
-there is no advantage of using a 840 pro over the m5s in real life
-you will want the acx version for better cooling
-the zx850 is junk compared to the xfx

since the ram price changed a bit, id get this
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/13ISx

if you are not to go the SLi route, get the xfx 550w psu

Thanks,
Is there any advantage for higher clocked memory over DDR3-1600 Memory both in normal situation and in overclocking?

^

-your cheapo watercooler is the same if not worse than a heatsink for a lot cheaper
-a k chip on a h series chipset is just wrong
-its a office rig that plays starcraft. recommending a 780 is plain stupidity
-your psu doesnt even fit lol
