Having some problems with my RAM

Hey guys. My computer is running 64 bit windows with 8GB of RAM however recently my computer is saying I have 8GB of ram but with 3.98 GB useable. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can fix it. PS I have a dedicated Graphics card (AMD XFX 7850 2GB Core Edition). Thanks for any help you can offer

Are you sure your system is 64 bit? I mean, your motherboard supports 64 bit architecture.

Please list your motherboard, and re check things in system properties.

Yeah my MB is capable of using 64bit OS. I have had this computer for around 6 months and only have had this problem occur now.

Shall I list my other components aswell?

Yeah you should.

Basically just resetting / upgrading the bios work.
Upgrade your bios and swap the slots of your RAM. It should detect 8 GB then.

I would like to point out that it does recognise the 8GB of ram however says that 3.98 gb is useable

Yeah ... after a bios reset it should use it too.

Probably there are some errors with your bios which are not letting it use more than 4 GB as in a 32 bit OS (If you install more than 4 GB RAM in 32 bit OS, it would clearly mention that xx GB RAM is available but 3.9 GB is usable). Upgrading bios is recommended.

Download the F7a bios version from this website (Gigabyte official website) -

Nopes, it won't wipe your system. It would just update and reset the bios to its default.
Also, after doing that, swap your RAM modules.
