I've been at crossroads lately.

Could someone please recommend me the best possible cpu for my needs, that also factors in price?

I will be getting a separate gpu,
my computer will be used for gaming and HD video editing on Sony Vegas - rendering time isnt so much of an issue, as long as the video preview moves along smoothly.

Whats more important, core amount? ghz? Could you please recommend a cpu for me?

Budget: +-250 for mobo and cpu

for $250 id say get the fx 6300 and a good board like the gigabyte 970a-ud3, but for around $300 u can get the i5 and $80 board but its over budget.

Intel has a higher core performance so more can be processed at a lower clock speed than with amds piledriver reason for a 4ghz 8350 being close to the 3.4ghz i5. the 3570k is the ideal recommended gaming cpu and if its over budget i would go with the fx 6300 because the i3 3220 is basically on par with the 6300 but the more cores is better if performance is similar, and i found with amd they have more features on their lower end board than intel does.

I recently found a combo on Microcenter, the i5 3750k + Full ATX for about $260 after taxes. Does that sound like a good deal? And do you know how the i5 would perform in video editing?
