This is a second post that more clearly communicates my question. Okay so please be patient with me as I am only 13 years old and about to turn 14! I am going to be laying cat5E cable in our attic this weekend and to accommodate that I am going to be using my original modem which is also a wireless router however since the wireless part of it is terrible I will have the wireless capability shut off, so I would like to buy the TP-Link wireless router to use just for a wireless access point. I also would like to add a switch because I have about 5 devices now but I plan on adding more things over time like a few more computers ETC. My question is, is will everything work this way? It seems like some people have their router first and then there switch however I think that the modem has a router built in so I am wondering if it will work that way without slowing down. Also I want all my computers and Roku boxes to be able to talk to each other including the wireless laptop, and I would like them to be able to communicate with my freeNas server as well as the printer. Please explain clearly that way I will fully understand. I will greatly appreciate anyone who takes the time to do so!

PS: I have don't yet own any of the equipment other than the modem otherwise I would try to figure it out myself.

So here is thing. If you have 2 routers (Zyxel and TP-LINK) on a network and you do not disable DHCP it will cause conflict.

First Solution: Configure the Zyxel act solely as a modem. You should be able to find the instruction online on that. If you do that you have to move your Camera DVR system to the router end. Make sure the Camera DVR system don't have a static IP. Because it may not work if the Zyxel's network and TP-Link has different IP. If does would be easier just for you to configure TP-Link Network like Zyxel's. Then you should be done.

PRO: TP-Link should be a better router then the Zyxel in my opinion.

Second Solution: configure TP-LINK to solely act as wireless access point. Then everything should work the way it is.

PRO: Easy to switch over.
