I know that you can have backwards comaptability with a PCIe slot at 2.0 x16 and put a PCIe 3.0 x16 graphics card in the slot, but i was wondering what a PCIe slot at x4 is and what a PCIe x1 slot is and what i can put into them.

Thanks!

Just bandwidth. x4 has 4x the bandwidth as x1. And each generation gap doubles bandwidth. So let's say you have a PCIe 2.0 x8 card reader or whatever, Just an example by the way. You can plug that into a PCIe 2.0 x8, PCIe x16, PCIe 3.0 x4, PCIe 3.0 x8, or PCIe 3.0 x16 to provide it with the necessary bandwidth.

So is it possible to put a graphics card into a PCIe slot at x4 or a PCIe x1 slot?

Yes; some CrossFireX run at x4, but it's highly not recommended and performance will drop pretty badly. And you should never put it in a x1. Go read up on the bandwidth usage of GPUs.

I was asking because i want this motherboard- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=13-130-679&SortField=0&SummaryType=0&Pagesize=10&PurchaseMark=&SelectedRating=-1&VideoOnlyMark=False&VendorMark=&IsFeedbackTab=true&Page=2#scrollFullInfo

but it has one PCIe 2.0 x16 slot and one at x4 but i have this graphics card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150605
