So I have an i5 3570k with an extreme6 mobo that I'm going to overclock soon... This'll be my first time OC'ing and I don't need better performance, I just want to get experience overclocking so I'm going for around 4.2ghz.

Tomorrow I'm going to be picking up a cooler and thermal paste for it (from microcenter). Any advice on either?
Based on what I seen, I think the hyper 212 evo should be good. Opinions?

Thanks for reading it and for your help!

I think that A hyper 212 EVO should work pretty darn well for this situation. It comes with thermal paste pre-applied, but I think you should consider getting a tube of Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound. It does a phenomenal job at conducting heat away from the CPU.

However, if you are going to try for more clock speeds in the future, I would consider spending some extra money on something like a noctua NH-C14.

If you want to go really extreme, you could purchase a corsair H100i, which is a pre-filled, self-contained dual 120mm liquid cooler.
