So I recently graduated law school and have gotten some funds to purchase a computer. I was going to wait until after I got a job so I could build a nice gaming desktop, but a dead laptop has forced my hand and I need a new computer now. So, with a $650 budget I decided to see what I could get. I initially thought of buying a pre-build from Cyberpower PC because they were dirt-cheap. However having read some of those horror stories about them I'm thinking now I want to try my hand at building a PC (which I've never done before). So could you guys let me know if this computer would work? Eventually its purpose will be a gaming PC once I have enough money to add in a graphics card and get a better monitor (mine's an old Dell something-or-other from 5+ years ago). Other than that I just want a computer that'll last me a while and be good for general usage.

CPU: Intel i5-3570 ($194.99 - Newegg)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212+ ($19.99 - Newegg)
Motherboard: Asus P8z77-V LK ATX LGA1155 ($109.99 - Newegg)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) ($54.99 - Amazon)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM HD ($65.63 - Amazon)
Case: Cooler Master HAF 912 ATX Mid Tower Case ($49.99 - Newegg)
PSU: Corsair Builder 500W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V Power Supply ($47.99 - Microcenter)
Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer ($17.99 - Newegg)
OS: Windows 7 64-bit ($90.91 - Amazon)

Total: $652.47
Thanks for the assistance; I appreciate it.

I think you're forgetting a GPU.

Those are great parts, but even a GTX 660 will push you another 230$.

And if you get the latest GTX 700s. it'll be 400-600$

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the i5-3570 has integrated graphics (Intel HD 2500). While not all that useful for gaming it should function until I can afford a GPU as was my original plan.

Yes the CPU has integrated graphics. It will not play games at even lowest settings, but you will be able to use the computer until you have a GPU.

Also you cannot overclock the 3570 (non K edition).
So drop the CPU cooler and get an h77 board.
