I have been getting private messages from Tom's that say I received best answer on one or more of the posts. But when I go to the link they provide, I get the above error message. This has happened for the last several days and several messages.

I don't care about the best answer, but I thought you might want to know in case there is something that needs fixing.

From what I can see these are your last four best answers and you can try clicking on these links to see if they work. The links in the PM may have a glitch and if these links check out then that glitch did not affect the best answers that you received. Since the new forum there have been isolated glitches and bugs here and there and they for the most part get worked out.

Do the links in your PM fully match the links inzone gave you? Right click, copy the link location then paste it into a word doc or text file for direct comparison, one over the other.

There was a problem a few days ago with the HTML in messages being displayed as text and not actually being rendered as part of the web page.

Can you use the Windows snipping tool to show me a screen shot of one of the messages?

You mean the message from Tom's telling me I have a best answer, or do you mean the 404 error message I get when I click on the embedded link?

The BA alert message.

I'v been having the same issue, something is wrong with the automatted messages and its messed up the text.

@ Clutchc
You will find there is a "<" at the end of the the URL, remove that and it will work.

@ Apanzee
This is what I have been getting, its the same situation for new badge alerts as well.

@Manofchalk, I was going to point out the < symbol, but I wanted to see the message text to confirm whether or not the HTML glitch is still occurring.

@Clutchc, Use the workaround pointed out by manofchalk, and simply remove the symbol at the end of the URL until this gets fixed. In the meantime, I'll try and get a hold of one of the devs to see if this can't be sorted out.

What's happening, as I mentioned above, is that the HTML isn't being rendered properly and is showing as plain text instead of part of the web page.

OK. Good enough.

I kind of want to test something.

I'm going to select you as BA in this thread - when you get the message, can you confirm for me 100% whether or not it's still occurring?

I had 2 messages pertaining to that. Both time stamped the same: June 9, 2013 1:36 PM
The first one: "Best Answer Selected for 404 - Page Not Found" was still going to error 404
The 2nd one: "Question solved! "404 - Page Not Found" worked perfectly.

Hmm. Okay, well I reversed the BA, and I've sent a message to a couple devs with a link to this thread. Whether they chime in with their two cents or not, I'm sure they'll give it a look and try to figure out what the issue is. Hopefully it can be fixed quickly.

Thanks for the heads-up on this! Will pass it along to the dev team. Looks like a simple error in the private message itself.

I messaged Lourson and Guibod, Joe; they should be already looking into it. :)

Rightyo! At first glance, it looks like a simple rendering issue with some HTML.

Yeah, sorry about all this. To be honest, I'm not even sure what's going on. The problems began after the dev team got off work (they are based in France). They are aware of what's happening though, and I'm sure they'll sort it out as soon as they get back to work, which should be a few hours from now if I've got my time zones correct.

Again, our apologies for the issues plaguing the site/forums currently. Take a break for a bit, get some sunshine. We'll be back to normal soon enough :)

I too have been getting Error 404 when trying to read a message or click on my tom's hardware profile. Also answering a post or reply in most cases.

Same here - 404 and 500 page errors when opening threads, posting or editing. Bloody annoying when you've just typed 10 lines of instructions. As a previous poster has already commented, the forum is largely unusable until this is fixed. Better be soon or I'll be signing off permanently, much as I'm loathe to do as it's by far the most respected PC forum on the net in terms of it's professionalism.

If you keep trying to post it will work. Like try and edit it then go back then try and edit them go back and it will eventually work

I've discovered that, it's the only reason I'm still here using it! But it's no way acceptable.

I came here to make a similar thread.
I made a thread months ago. this here:
http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2063631/xerox-ph...

I saved it for when I need the info for refilling toner (and possibly developer) printer powder. Well, I need to refill and the link just gives me 404. Can anyone copy paste the link if it works for them? Will the thread come back alive eventually within a week or so if not? WTF?

On a point of order. Whoever selected BA on this thread was not, as I understand the guidelines, entitled to do so. :)

Hi there. The 404's you're experiencing trying to reach that thread are a result of that thread having been deleted. It was flagged by our automatic systems for deletion on August 3rd after having gone unanswered for four months. I've just restored the thread, so you should be able to view it now.

On a separate note, the use of multiple accounts is generally frowned upon by the moderation team. I'd suggest you pick one and stick to it.
