Haha.

Just go PC, then you won't have to deal with all this needless drama.

It seems a bit pointless to ask members of a pc hardware forum what they intend to use for "next-gen" gaming.

Well, I don't know about you guys, but I'd like to be locked permanently into a particular piece of set top hardware for half a thousand bucks with limited access to mostly cookie-cutter first-person shooter genre games. Something that monitors my sharing habits and wants to give a fat piece of my used games purchases to Gamestop/EBGames... ideally a platform with a series of arcane and draconian restrictions and subscriptions required to play anything from Scrabble to Call of Gears Duty: Halo Ops 7 (DLC enhanced).

Heyyy!!!

You sound perfect; I think you should really buy an Xbox One.

It has ALL those features and it's also 100$ more expensive than the PS4 which LACKS

all those features! Damn. I see a really good fit here. Enjoy!!! ^O^

PC, just get a wireless Xbox controller and receiver, a long HDMI cord to connect your to your T.V., and enjoy.

@Vulpes vulpes
For most people running a long HDMI cable from their gaming PC to their living room PC isn't practical. You'd want to compare a living room geared HTPC against the next gen consoles.... and you couldn't build or buy one that would touch the PS4's performance for less than $700.

A PC has more utility beyond gaming. That's what your also paying for.
June 11, 2013 4:51:49 PM

I know. I have a good gaming desktop with a 2500k, 7950, 16GB of RAM, SSD for caching, several storage drives, and all that jazz. I use it for work, media, gaming, etc etc etc.

For the living room, though, the goals I have are different, so there's pros and cons of a console vs HTPC. If I was, for example, wanting the box in the living room to connect to a media server on my primary PC, so that it could stream movies... There's multiple ways to accomplish the goal, some more elegant than others, some more effective... Streaming Netflix, Hulu, and other internet content would be another factor. Gaming just one of the considerations....

But, I wouldn't be worried about whether or not I could run ZBrush on my living room box, ya' know?
It's a tool that needs to accomplish living room media needs. Movies, Music, Gaming, that sort of thing, not a serious work machine.

And for that purpose, right now, with the new gen consoles, HTPCs might not be the most effective way to accomplish meeting living room needs right now.

Course, if I was poor, and had to choose between having a good PC, or no PC and a console, I'd want the PC... but owning a PC, and looking for a box that's going to live under the TV in my living room.... A console is usually the best bet for most people, with ease of use and cost considered.

Anyways tho.... There's absolutely no excuse for an informed buyer to purchase an Xbox One vs a PS4 after last night's e3 presentation. Unless they can't read... but I'm sure Dudebros CAN, in fact, read, since they type slurs and cuss at me on Xbox Live all the time.

You are mistaken! Pc's don't cause lag, slow internet does. It would be the same with a console.

I guess you own Pentium 4 with windows 7 installed. :)
Switch to a decent - gaming PC and see where all your lags go. Everything would be buttery smooth.

There are times when even consoles lag at their own games and you can't change a setting there to improve the frame rates. In PC if you see lag you can lower the video quality 1 notch and performance would increase. Same is not with any of the consoles out there.
