Dear Community.

This is my first post, so treat me gently! I have recently completed my gaming rig. It's not the best, I went for some mid range parts to fit my budget.

Motherboard: M5A78L-M/USB3
RAM: Corsair 2x4GB sticks, Crucial 2x2GB sticks so 12GB in total running at 1333mhz
CPU: FX-8320 OC to 4.0ghz with hyper evo 212 cooler
GPU: Palit GTX 770 2GB
HD: Samsung 840 SSD 250GB
PSU: 600W OCZ Stealthstream2

Running at 1920x1080, I can play all games on ultra settings, with all the nvidia panel options set to max too. I get a solid 60 FPS (locked to my refresh rate on my monitor) in most games. Battlefield 3, Bioshock Infinite, Saints Row 3, Guild Wars 2, Dishonored, Dead Space 3 etc. The only games I don't get 60FPS is Metro Last Light (average around 35-40 FPS), Far Cry 3 (average around 35-40), and GTA IV (average 30 FPS with high res mods).

My question to the community, if you would be so kind to help is what would my performance be like upgrading to a 2560x1440 monitor? I've been researching it alot and alot of what I've read says you need crossfire or SLI GPU's to run 2560x1440 and achieve decent frame rates still. Is this correct? I do like having all my settings at max, what would my games run like at max settings on 2560x1440? If it is too choppy and FPS is bad, I could turn down AA and other things like people mentioned. Is 1920x1080 with everything max, better looking than 2560x1440 with settings turned down to get a decent FPS? Any advice and thoughts would be much appreciated! I thank you for your time.

Turning up the resolution means adding more pixels your GPU has to

render and make look good for the settings you've set. Thus there's more strain

on the GPU and your FPS will be lower. I think a GTX 780 might run at 1440 alright.

But indeed, SLI is nice for such high displays. For some it'll look better; although some

people might not like how small things get, at 1440p or higher. You could SLI your GTX 770

for a performance boost for sure.

I have a 1440p monitor and 2gb 770gtx. I run Metro Last Light at 1440p at all settings maxed (except SSAO, which is off). Game runs lag free. SSAO won't really make much of a noticeable difference at 1440p.
