5970 + 5870 Trifire!

Hi guys, I have a few questions about my Trifire.
Currently I have my 5970 in the PCIEx16 slot, and 5870 in PCIEx8 slot. Both are reference cards.
5970 generates alot more heat in idle and load + doesnt overclock so well.

So my qn is, is it advisable to place the 5870 above the 5970?
And about the effective RAM, is it 3GB(1+2GB) like MSI afterburner states? Or is only the main card's RAM used?

Heat rises. Don't cook your 5870 by placing it on top of the hotter card.

About the effective RAM each gpu will have 1GB. It will not add up.

Wait, if the RAM doesnt addup, how does my gaming on 1440p work? 1GB certainly isn't enough.

About cooking the 5870, im not so sure that would happen, cuz the 5870 runs really that much cooler, I never ever hear its fan at all.
But the thing is like matto said, heat rises. And when gaming, the 5870 ends up heating the already hot 5970, which is why i opened the poll. So far, it seems the 5970 is more popular as the main card though
