Its based on the AMD 760G chipset and is the only motherboard currently available in our locality.
I got it for the AMD FX 8320 Piledriver processor, it has AM3+ support and everything. Will it affect the performance of the CPU?
I am relatively new to AMD, so some help required.

Your bigger problem is that the MB is rated for 95W or less processors. The 8-core you chose is a 125W processor. Not a good ided to put that processor in that MB. But the MB probably won't recognize the FX-8320 anyway without a BIOS update... and there is no BIOS update for that processor because it isn't supported in the CPU list: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M5A78LM_LX/#support_CPU

Bottom line: Replace the MB or get a Processor supported by the MB.

Here's the link for it:

I am talking about the LX Version 2 model, it supports the 8320 according to the CPU support list.
My question was about the performance difference? or any limitation?

Ah. I apologize for inadvertently attempting to mislead you. I did indeed miss the "V2".
The only differences that comes to mind is that older chip set will be unable to support SATA III's 6Gb/s (for faster SSD speeds), and USB 3.0 if those are important to you. Also, the newer 990FX chip sets allow for the FX processors' faster HT ver. 3.1. The 760 chipset is still using ver. 3.0

If you're an overclocker, you'll probably find that board does not lend itself to very high overclocks with its small VRs and catalytic caps. At stock, I don't imagine you will be able to tell the difference though from a newer, faster board... At least not without test equipment. I wouldn't expect it to actually "cripple" the FX-8320, but I would expect a newer 990FX chip set to improve on it. But never having had the opportunity to test them side by side, all I can do is offer my opinion.

I managed to obtain the version of the board with USB 3.0 i.e, Asus M5A78L-M/USB3

So i guess i am not missing out on much. Thank you! :)
