hard drive can't be detected

hi,
after taking out the secondary hard drive ( it didn't have os, i used it as a backup) the main hd (with os) coundn't be found.
in the bios it says that there is a hard drive but before windows (7 in my case) starts is says "adapter 1 no disk found" and then nothing happens.

i've already tried to switch the cables and to check if every thing is inserted correctly and it seems so.
what can i do?

Pray!....no seriously nothing we can really do without at least an inkling of your hardware - how about mobo, kind of drive, cpu, etc
