I've been petitioned to build a computer for my uncle. They do a lot of video editing through pinnacle 15 and use a bunch of different add-ons for it. They don't do any gaming. So all the computer is going to be used for is video editing and some web surfing. Trying to build a comp that will last them a few years even if they move away from pinnacle 15. So which CPU do I go with?

The 3 cpus I'm looking at are the xeon E3-1245V3, The i7 3770, and the amd 8350. The xeon and the i7 are basically the same price, and I've heard that xeon is actually better with video editing stuff but I really don't know, I've never even looked at xeons before. the 8350 is obviously cheaper, but would it be able to keep up with the intel processors? Would a step up to haswell be worth it? Also am open to other ideas on processors.

Here are the other proposed specs for the comp.

Nvidia GTX770
16 gb gskill Ares series
128 gb SSD
1TB WD black (they have ~6 TB of external storage space that will be used through USB 3.0)
~850w PSU

These are rough specs and are definitely subject to change. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks :)

Jeremy

If you get an unlocked 3000 or 4000 series quad-core processor with HT with an aftermarket cooler and give it a reasonable overclock, I'm pretty sure it'll beat whatever a quad-core Xeon can do. So unless you're planning a system with dual CPUs or you're getting one of the Xeons with 16 logical cores I'd say steer clear of them.

Xeon and i7 are good Processors than FX8350. They both have 6 cores with 12 threads that is good for Video Rendering. If you will choose Dual Processors. That would be much better.

OK Sorry !..

But he is open for other Ideas and I didn't list what he list. I just telling him that i7 and Xeon has 6 cores. ahahah !! Sorry buddy  :kaola:

@imjouster: If your uncle want a good processor and his budget will allow. Just get a i7 3930K it cost around $560. hehe

Appreciate all the input. Think we're going to end up going with a 4770k I'm not entirely sure of his budget, but I know he doesn't want to go too crazy on the price, I'm kinda shooting for around 1500 and that's including a monitor/os/and case that he wants. So the other components are definitely on a bit of a budget. But I will definitely mention the 3930k to him. I was planning on making a "ridiculous" build for him as well which will be up around 2500 bucks and that one would include a 3930k :D
