Do you plan on overclocking?
Do you need an OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse?
Where do you live?

i dont plan on overclocking, but will if the performance is under par after i have built it.
I am just focusing on the main computer, so case, power supply, MOBO, CPU+ fan, Memory, GPU, hard drive, and optical drive

Canada or USA....
If usa, please list your city and state so we can see if you live near a Microcenter.

you don't need 16 gigs for gaming. i doubt you'll ever go over 6-7 gigs for any high demanding game.

I would actually ditch most of nathanthe1rst's build.
Since you didn't say you need an OS:

-New 4th gen Intel's processor (Haswell)
-Overclockable.
-Standard 1600mhz 8gb ram. You don't need 16gb of ram for gaming.
-GTX 770 max nearly all games on ultra at 1080p.
-Higher quality PSU. The Corsair CX lineups are meant for budget psus because the 430w and 500w version are cheap. The XFX psus are much higher quality.

Edit: Since you live near a microcenter, grab this instead:

top lel
it's kind ULTRA EARLY to get the haswell. if you want haswell build for under 1k then wait a few months. 4-5 months most likely before they have a decent price.
edit: you don't need an operating system? here, try this: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/16JdD

Not really. Don't expect prices to drop just because Haswell came out a couple weeks ago. Price will not drop, and it's always smart to grab the newest hardware available.
And as I said, that build has problems.
-1333mhz RAM is a bit slow. 1600mhz is the most standard RAM and it'll be about the same price.
-HDD is only 32mb cache. You can get a 64mb cache for about the same price.
-Corsair CX line-ups are meant for budget builds, not a $1k build.
June 15, 2013 12:46:40 PM

i agree: i had several flaws. but i don't agree abou the latest hardware. your builds exceed 1k by a few, just for haslel.
here's my final rig for you: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/16Jno

The haswell build is only $16 over the 1k budget and you get major improvements. Newer gen processor and a 770 which is alot stronger than the 7850. In a $1k gaming rig, the 7850 is too weak.
Remember that the OP lives near a local microcenter, so Haswell is only $20-30 more expensive than Ivy Bridge.
Lots of people will agree with getting the latest hardware. The i5-4670k is the same as the i5-3570k except with some improvements. Even if it is minor, improvements are improvements. The pc will also be up to date instead of being one generation behind.
June 15, 2013 1:10:14 PM

i really dont mind going over 1k by a few hundred just to be clear if it improves the performance drastically
June 15, 2013 1:10:55 PM

maybe, but what if i gave it a 3gb card? http://pcpartpicker.com/p/16JJB now, that's a good build, with a modular psu!
also, i noticed in your latest build that you included some of my elements :D  we can both agree on the fact the define r4 is an amazing case, no?
June 15, 2013 1:22:29 PM

you don't mind if it improves performances drastically? here you go! http://pcpartpicker.com/p/16K2B
oh and if you buy this one, you will get far cry 3 blood dragon, crysis 3 and bioshock infinite for free! beat that nvidia :D

Yes, the fractal design define r4 is an amazing case at a really good price. I recommend that case a lot.
My build will still perform better in gaming. The vram doesn't matter much if the OP is gaming on a single 1080p monitor. The GTX 770 is stronger than any AMD card out there except the Radeon 7990 which is about $1k.
