Hi all and if this question has already been asked I am very sorry but I couldn't find it, anyway.......

I have just purchased some new components to upgrade my PC. I have bought a MSI Z87 G45 Gaming Motherboard, i5-4670K, 8Gb Corsair Vengeance 2133MHz RAM and a Thermaltake Hydro cooler. I have a Dell 2560x1440 monitor and I want to know if my SLI 580 (1.5Gb) cards will compliment my system or should I sell them on and take the plunge and buy a GTX 780 or maybe even a GTX 770? I like to play games on the highest resolution possible with as highest settings as possible, Crysis 3, Battlefield 3, Medal of Honour, you get the picture.

Any advice, as normal, is gratefully received

Thank you

I have a 1440p monitor running with a overclocked HD 7850. Now my HD 7850 is nearly on par with a GTX 580, and is in high VRAM places, i.e 1440p. If I did crossfire I could Ultra most things, as atm I to medium-high mix on BF3 and most other games.

I think try it and see, if you dislike it get a better GPU.

Many thanks for the replies. I have watched a couple of videos on YouTube that seem to say that the higher the resolution the more RAM the card needs. The 580's are both 1.5Gb but, I am lead to believe, the RAM doesn't double so trying to run a 1440p monitor with games at ultra settings is not going to give very high frame rates, is that wrong?

Thanks again

I changed my sli gtx 580 to a gtx 770 asus, now I have a graphics card that heats up less and less energy consumption for the same performance. taking into account that I can now make another SLI with higher quality.

I took the plunge and went for the GTX 780. I had the same results, less of everything except performance! Well worth the change!

I live in a country where the technology is expensive (Brazil, please unprejudiced am not a "HUE"), I could not go straight for a gtx 780, the increase in value is high. but in the future I'll do a SLI with my 770 and hope to get a good result.
