Okay so I want to try and build my first machine as cheaply as possible so I can get a hang of what I'm doing.

I've found a motherboard: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-P8B75-M-LX-Motherboard-PCI...

And a processor: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-Celeron-Dual-Core-Process...

I understand that the socket-type must match so in this case they both seem to support 1155 so they will be compatible right?

Does that mean I can grab that processor and motherboard and start building?

But what does the "32nm" bit mean on the description of the processor? Do they come in different physical sizes? Does that mean the motherboard must also support "32nm"?

Any help on getting my first project up and running would be great! If anyone has any other processors, mobos, gfx card etc they could suggest, please feel free!

More about : build mobo processor socket type

CPU and motherboard are compatible yes.

nm is to do with the manufacturing process of the CPU - ignore it.
Socket type is simply the type of socket type on the motherboard and CPU - you want them to match - in your case, you have.

bro if u would take my advice, don't waste ur money for that processor.
the mobo's alright and for the processor at least go with an i3-3220 and tell ur budget so that we may help u more accurately.
do u want to go with amd?

First PC build! Exciting! What will you be using this PC for? Gaming? Productivity? Home-Theater? Video editing?

Answering this question will help those who want to give you the best recommendation.

Thanks for confirming! Really appreciate it! So the only thing I need to check for is the socket-type? Can some motherboards not handle some processors? Eg. are there some motherboards that cannot handle Intel i7 and how can I spot this?

My budget: as cheap as possible. As long as I will be able to build it, start it and load an OS. I'll consider more expensive stuff after my first build!

AMD is fine, I really don't mind. I just don't want to run into any problems before I learn how to deal with them.

Hey! Plan to build it and then burn it lol. Just building it as a 'practice' one before I build something more serious.

If it just for the experience then go with AMD. AMD products cost less than Intel and you can actually give the PC away after. Celerons are garbage!

Here is one of the cheapest do-it-yourself builds for $204.

then, why not a best answer bro?..:)

man check if the motherboard bios supports the CPU
Sometime we have a motherboard and CPU phisically compatible (same socket)
but logical incompatible (diferent voltage range, power consumption range, fsb range).
Well you at this time are asking, how i can see if this cpu will work.
just open the manufacturer site and see the CPU support list for your mobo.

the msi970A support the fx-6300 and for other few mobo's a bios flash would do it
