RAID volume capacity only equal to one drive?

Hi guys.

Got a Samsung 840 Pro 128gb and 840 Pro 256gb. Both drives good and functional.

Get to the Intel RAID setup. It recognizes both drives. I create a RAID0 volume, but the capacity of the volume is only equal to 238GBs?

Any ideas? Motherboard is an ASUS Maximus Gene-Z. I think BIOS version is the original. If I did update it, it would have been a long time ago. Could that be it?

One note: I also have a Corsair Force GT 180gb and 240gb. Tested those and RAID0 volume capacity is 330-something, so that seems ok.

Any ideas?

The total capacity of a RAID-0 array is based upon the drive in the array with the smallest size.

So if you RAID-0 a 128GB drive and a 256GB drive then your RAID array's total capacity (before formatting) will be 256GB (128 x 2).

If you RAID-0 a 180GB drive and a 240GB drive then your RAID array's total capacity (before formatting) will be 360GB (180 x 2).

Crap, that's right; smallest disk in array determines volume size. I swear to god I knew this at one point! Thanks, Dereck! Off to get another 256gb Samsung!
