i built my computer around AMD and am thinking about upgrading the proccessor.... i got a fx4100 and am hearing it is what is causing majority of my lagg in gaming....(wheather or not that is true)....

what is the best CPU i can upgrade to?
i heard i should go with Phenom being that its more gaming oriented.
but is that the BEST gaming CPU that is AMD?(i plan to go with a 8-core if i go with phenom)

i would go with intel but i cant afford a new build again :/.

-thanks for any advise-

Many favor the 965 OCed over say the 8150, but the 8150 OCs well also, the 8350 even more so (many have hit 5 GHz - and if you do anything else with the system the 8350 multi-task better and has more 'general' power

FX 6300 is also a good contender if you want to go a tad cheaper, but I recommend you avoid the FX 4300. I wouldn't really recommend a step back to Phenom II either, as Piledriver is better and easy to overclock.

get FX8320 or FX8350 and overclock FTW if you want a much better CPU. dont under estimate the FX4300 either those overclock nicely too should get you a decent preformence increase for zero cost. what kind of motherboard do you use and what are your temps? lagging in games could easily come from overheating such as poorly or to thick applied thermal paste. Or non optimal bios settings. make sure the HTT bus is set to 2600mhz and your ram timings are correct. your preformence issue has most likely another cause then the cpu alone.

Compared to an FX-4100 and the Sandy i3's, a Phenom II x4 965 was a good choice, I recommended plenty back when Bulldozer launched. However compared too anything higher than say a FX-6100/6300 unless you were looking at the Hexacore Phenom II's it wasnt a good idea.

For an upgrade to a an FX-4100, get a FX-6300 at minimum if not go straight for an 8350.

Fx-6350 if you don't want to overclock but still want a great processor, fx-6300 if you have a great motherboard that can take you far with overclocking, and the fx-8350 if you want to future proof for another year or so and have a 8+2 power phase mobo and liquid cooling if you want the overclock option.

As i said earlier, the fx6300 is a strong processor and is quite good for gaming. If u plan to upgrade ur rig in future then get the fx8350 or something better but for now to be free from lag, get a fx6300 which would be just enough...:)
