How close do memory sticks need to be to run in dual channel mode?

One of my memory sticks died and I need another to replace it. But I was wondering how close do they have to be to run in dual channel? Same manufacturer? What about the timings? Can the timings be close or the same from different manufacturers?

I don't advise mixing sticks from sets, but if you do it, the preferably same brand/model - then would be same freq and timings, in particular if 1333 or 1600 can generally always get them to play together, in the higher freqs it gets harder..if you try and have problems, give me a shout, (unfortunately) I have lots of practice from clients and doing support over at GSkill, can normally get them to play

Yes, the sticks don't care, if those two play, can take them and add another in a tri-channel rig and run in tri channel, or add yet another and you can run quad channel - ea stick is a 64bit device, the MC depending on model , can add them together to run to the CPUs MC's capabilities
