I am the author of this thread: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1711239/motherbo...

- I thought the issue was resolved with a PSU swap but after buying the unit and installing it, the computer started having the same issues again within 10 minutes of use.

Details below.

Good Day Everyone,
I'm having a problem with my wife's computer and i'm leaning towards the Motherboard going out but I wanted to see if there was any more insight before I drop the money for a new mobo.

Issue: Computer won't boot, or post, regularly.

Symptoms:
- I push the power button and it turns on, hard drive spins, fan spins, cd rom spins, but the system doesn't post(Beep). It just sits in this state and nothing happens
- When I hold down the power button, nothing happens. I have to manually switch of the PSU to turn the computer off again
- Randomly, it does start to boot but after accessing the motherboard bios, the monitor will just go blank and everything will stop responding.

Troubleshooting so far:
1. Re-seated the Ram and PSU; issue persists
2. Unhooked CD rom, harddrive; issue persists
3. Re-set bios: this caused it to work for 30 seconds till the screen went blank(Symptom 3)
4. Replaced monitor to working computer, monitor works fine.
5. Swap out Ram
6. Replace PSU

ASUS M4A87TD/USB3 AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

have you tried the sticks at 1066 or even 1333, might be possible CPU can't run 1600 sticks, also post up your systems voltages, particularly DRAM, CPU/NB, HT and CPU somrthing might net be being fed enough voltage by the mobo

- I just moved it down to 1333 to see if that does anything but something i forgot to mention that this is a recent issue. COmputer's been working for since Feb of 2012.

Here are the voltages I think you're looking for. Bios is a bit screwy

CPU Offset Voltage: 1.368
CPU/NB 1.175
Dram voltage stays: Auto but the standard it says is 1.5
HT: same message as above but standard says 1.2

Try taking CPU/NB to 1.21if needed for 1333, 1.26 or so for 1600

Okay, thanks for the insight. I was able to keep the system running for 10-15 min. with it running at 1333. I will adjust the voltage and do some stress testing to see if this helped.

May be something like a weak trace or just not regulating voltage as well as when new, it's fairly common

10 hours later she's running strong. Thanks again for all your help!

Okay, 3 days later and the issue seemed to persist though the system definitely seems more stable. Last night, it black screened again and wouldn't let me boot/post. I powered it down and turned off the power supply. I got back from work today and it booted just fine and now i'm typing on it. so i'm not sure. I'm installing some temperature monitors to see if that's the issue but other than that, i'm at a loss. Any more wisdom that anyone can impart would be appreciated.

Try upping the CPU/NB just a tad more, I prefer slow raises, but some jump more, 1.24 or 1.25

Yea, me too. I'll bump it up one spot and keep on trucking along. Thanks again.
