could i have a broken dimm slot? how can i test it? thanks

i just installed 1gb x 2 memory rams on my desktop only 1gb is shoeing on my pc, why would this happen? and is there any way of testing the dimm slot? many thanks for any help

Try a known-good stick of RAM by itself in each slot.
