...Or at least my gaming rig. Ever since I upgraded the motherboard and CPU I've had problems. I should have taken care of it earlier and RMA'd but I waited forever. Well now I've had a new motherboard and it's been great for a month or so. No blue screens, game crashes, or anything of note. Until now. Now I'm scared to just turn it on. I guess I should preface this by saying that I turned on the CPU overclock tuner to auto in the BIOS two days ago. I have a very good CPU fan so I figured why not? I noticed a drop in performance immediately, so I reverted back to defaults. Then all hell broke loose.

I started to notice all of my games were starting to crash. Constantly. Usually under any decent amount of load as in right away. Then my computer just BSOD'd twice while trying to rip a Blu Ray onto my hard drive, which I've done dozens of times without problems. Then it failed to update. I did a system restore to five days ago, before the issues arose, but it did absolutely nothing. In fact, I tried playing two games and they crashed during. Now my computer just BSOD'd twice before I could even open Chrome.

I just don't even know what to troubleshoot. When I had issues before with my old motherboard, I tested all of my hardware and it came out clean. I guess it is possible that the motherboard ASUS sent my is crap, but I don't know. It's depressing. I may just do another Windows reinstall, but I doubt that will do anything besides pass the time.

Specs:

Windows 8 64 bit
i7 3770k
ASUS Maximus V Gene
Radeon 7970
12GB DDR3 1600Mhz
WD 2TB Hard Drive
Samsung 830 256GB
Blu Ray Drive

that asus mb is an outstanding mb...

i am gonna have to ask some questions...
1) what's your psu?
2) what is your ram exactly?
3) what cpu cooler are you using?
4) what case?
5) how is your case ventilation set up, and what fans are you using?

Lets start with that stuff first.

I just was able to update my drivers finally. I'm not sure what I did, but it seems to be doing okay as I just played a few games without crashing, freezing, or blue screens. I have no idea what was wrong. I checked temperatures and the CPU was fine, but the GPU could have been overheating as I don't have air conditioning. I'll check on it some more.

your ram is incompatible with your cpu.

try downclocking the ram and undervolting it. Intel cpus can't work with 1.65V ram... you need ram operating around 1.5V or lower. Thats the first and most obvious problem i see with your build... and all the problems you're having can be caused by this.... this is a serious issue.

downclock it to ddr3 1333 speeds and try it at 1.5v... see if it will be stable like that. Good luck. (i'm crossing my fingers here, not sure your ram will work at those settings or not, but it's worth a try before you get new ram)

Thank you so much. I guess when I carried over my RAM to my new stuff I never noticed that. It is downclocked to 1333MHz and 1.5 Volts automatically though. I think I'll just buy new RAM anyways to be safe. Any recommendations on RAM?

Any of these worth it?
