Hey all

This is my first build and I am really worried that something will not work, or be compatible with something and will stuff everything up.

These are what i have picked out, after heaps of research:

intel i7 3770 processor
intel 520 series SATA3 240 SSD
WD Green EZRX 2TB HDD
SATA DVD RW LG
SATA BLU-RAY WRITER LG
Coolermaster hyper 212 evo
Asus 2G GTX 670
Asus P8z77-V
Corsair Vengeance 1600MHZ 16G RAM

Have not selected a power supply or case yet.
Planning to use it for mainly gaming but not looking to overclock. And some design and 3D work.
Anything would be helpfull.

If you are not going to over clock, then an H77/H87 motherboard will suite fine and save some $$, unless there is a specific feature in the Z77 board you need. Also, have you considered a new Haswell setup? I'd suggest that for a new build, especially if you are not over-clocking.

Okay.
So, for example. Change the motherboard to a H87-PRO, and the processor to i7 4770? Is that something like what you mean by the Haswell steup?
And for that motherboard, would change to Kingston HyperX 1600MHZ 16G RAM.

Yes. And even across the H87 Asus motherboards, there is a $30 difference in price. So, I would throw all 5 Asus H87 motherboards up in the Newegg comparison grid, and see if there is anything you specifically need in the more expensive PRO version. The PRO looks like it has a slightly better Audio chipset and 4 vs 2 USB 3.0 ports, plus a few more connectors.

It's also time to think about form factor and case selection, because that will determine uATX vs. ATX for your motherboard.
