So I upgraded from my 7850 to a 7970 so I could get rid of a problem where I just get a black screen when my computer boots and it hasn't fixed it. What could it be!?

Monitor switched to wrong input?
Card's power cable supplying +12V?
Does the MB have integrated video and does it work?

Power supply or motherboard, could be RAM.

Also, windows 8 seems to work fine? I really don't understand what the issue is, it's ridiculous.

If neither the old or new card produce a display and everything is connected properly and the monitor is set to receive the proper input... I'd have to suspect the MB is the problem. Is this a new build?

there might be a fault in your memory or your PSU.
not saying that your PSU is not strong enough... there could be a fault in the transistor circuit of your PSU
the same thing happens to me so i change the PSU and it works again

Wait. Win8 works fine? When do you have the problem of no display, then?
