Hello I just took my ivy bridge apart and took out all of the old thermal paste intel used and put in some arctic sliver and reset my h100i with arctic sliver too and my room temps around 74degrees. Once i put it all togather my temps droped to stable idle the hotest core i will get is 37c, runing prime95 with no oc i reached 72c and it didnt move so i oc my i7 to 4.4ghz with easy tune and ran prime95 for ten mins the highest one i got was 79c nothing over 80 so would that be safe? and whats vcore? lol like i said im a noob!

1) define mountedon top pulling air in to rad - as in pulling air from outside case thru rad to inside?
2) explain how you mounted the heat sink and how and amount of thermal grease used

79c is fine for 4.4ghz. Download cpuz and get back to me on what vcore its reading.

Ok so u applied artic paste to cpu AND heatsink? If so, you used waaaay too much and it is insulating the chip. When you "took off" the stock, how did you do it? Just wipe it off or use rubbing alcohol, or something else.

Your vcore voltage is not an issue if using easy tune software OC. It errs on the safe side so ignore that - for now. Let's focus on the basics first. My gut says you aren't contacting properly. And still windering about rad mounting

Aslong as he used enough mounting pressure excess paste will just be pushed to the sides

That is not always true. And if you have it oozing out the side, you messed up big anyway

In fact, the ONLY way your method would even have a chance at working is if heatsink and cpu were lapped for perfectly flat surfaces - which I can guarantee the OP has not done. Haven't heard one vet or guide that would agree with you

It'll just make for more cleanup. His temps mean his mount is pretty good for only hitting 79C at 4.4

More cleanup...? Really? Try insulating chip and increasing heat. That is reality. Any reputable guide will agree.

I wouldn't be asking if it was a cleanup issue. This is a common mistake of inexperienced builders.

I used a paper towel and made sure I got it all of the thermal paste the best I could and my core voltage is 1.08 and i used easytune 6 for my overlock (beacse im new and wasen't sure on how to do it in my bios) I used just the tight amount of paste arctic sliver is thicker then most paste and it doesn't spread as far Thats for the Help tho! Is 850 watts enough for my build? and would i be able to power http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815100100 with not haveing to bump my power again?http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207011&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-_-pla-_-Power+Supplies-_-N82E16817207011&gclid=CK-csYzshbgCFZE-MgodmFIA_w power supple!

Paper towel... and whatever "tight" I assume you mean right, amount is... right - the fact you used paper towel only is reason enough to question methodology. But obviously you want to look elsewhere.

Good luck!
