Hello! Whenever I play a game like World of Warcraft my fan (Not sure if it's the power supply, GPU, CPU or case fan) will speed up for 15-30 seconds. It is obnoxious and loud. I've cleaned out the inside with air and it stopped for a few hours but did it again. This is probably normal but would there be a way to fix this? Like make it less obnoxious?

More about : fan speeds

Make sure that all of your drivers are up to date.

Download HWMonitor and then run WOW and see which fan is speeding up.

Let me know what info you gather :D

Any specific ones I should update though?

sometimes when you use your CPU, and the CPU load raise, the CPU Smart Fan speeds up the fan a 'lil', to maintain the temperature, when the cpu load goes down, the fan speeds down too.

Graphics drivers, but first give me the results HWMonitor gives you.

Just as I thought. All PSUs speed up their fans when powering a graphics card. It takes more power to use the graphics card, so the PSU gets hotter. This causes the fan to speed up. I did not think of this due to the fact that I do not notice the PSU fan speeding up because my CPU fan is really loud (getting a new one soon). SO don't worry, it is perfectly normal.

See, I thought this too. But is there a way to keep it running at a regular speed? It gets really annoying because it will do it often.

How loud is it? Is it worth messing with? If you want to, use SpeedFan to control the PSU's fan speed. But, it will require time to get it working right and testing it to be sure it will not overheat and maybe cause even bigger problems.

I don't have a high end gaming PC like most PC gamers do lol I just took my PC and added in a new Video Card, Processor, RAM and PSU. I don't know. Maybe I can deal with it... It lasts a few seconds but it does it quite often. Especially when I'm in a place in the game were there is a lot of people or many things going on.

Just wondering, what is your case and how many fans do you have mounted on it?

That sounds like it may be the culprit. More case fans will aid in the movement of air. Cooling everything in the case, not just the PSU. Can you give me your case's name so I can recommend some case fans of the appropriate size?

I can't find the name but I can give you the Height, Width and Length.

Height: 38.40 cm (15.12 inches)
Width: 16.58 cm (6.53 inches)
Length: 42.9 cm (16.89 inches)

Was it a prebuilt computer? If so, the model?
If not, what are the measurements of any empty fan mounting points? 80mm, 120mm, etc.

Is it a Compaq-Presario Pre-Built?
