MSI B75MA-E33 RAM problem

Hello,

I have a Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 2x 4GB memory sticks. Bios only loads if only one memory stick is attached and it has to be on the slot farther from the cpu. Otherwise the cpu fan just keeps turning on and off and nothing displays on the monitor. Do I have a defective Motherboard?

Please advise.

If same happens with both sticks, that is both work fine in slot farthest away, then quite probably have a dead slot
