Use a declutterng programme - Cleaner from http://www.piriform.com and ATF Cleaner from http://www.atribune.org - will both find and clear different types of unnecessary files.

Also, open up to see all Hidden files and folders and protected system files then go to c:\windows\software distribution\download and empty the folder. Also, at the top of the c:\windows folder will be a lot of blue entries starting with a $ symbol. Delete all of them.

You may gain as much as 4Gb in that method.
