Why is my Fps Dropping in every game, although i have a pretty good system?

I have an intel i5 at 3.20 ghz, 4gb of RAM and a Nvidia geforce 650 with latest drivers,and i still experience fps drops. But if i press Alt+esc and i return to main screen and then i return immediately to the game i am back to normal FPS. What should i do?

Sounds likely something is overheating check with HWMonitor from http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html
