What does the ATI IXP400 (SB400) chip do?

Hello everyone,

I have recently downloaded CPUID HWMonitor and it is saying diode 2 is overheating on my motherboard (MSI Amethyst-M). Now I believe this is referring to a chip on the board (ATI IXP400) because it seems to be the only thing getting hot. SO my question is, first of all, what does this chip do? Second is it fried or could there be some sort of software / hardware conflict? Or is this something completely different that is overheating? Sorry for my ignorance in advance.

Hmm well apparently when I put my computer into stand by mode and come back, it fixes the problem and the diode has normal readings.
