why is my gtx 780 preforming so poorly

i have just built a new computer with a i7 4770k cpu and the gtx 780 with a 850 watt power supply and an msi z87-gd65 motherboard and when i play games like saints row 3 or gta iv on ultra or even low i get only 12-45 fps and i have windows 8 64-bit can someone please help

It sounds like you are using the integrated HD 4600 graphics. Are you plugged into your graphics card and not your motherboard? Did you install the latest NVIDIA driver for your card?

yes i am plugged into my graphics card via dual link dvi and i have the 320.49 nvidia drivers

Download GPUz or MSI afterburner and check that the card is clocking up properly. It should be around 900mhz while gaming. If it is significantly lower we have found the problem.

GTA 4 and SR3 wont run properly on any system because they are horribly optimized, try a real game. Also for the best performance you will need to overclock your processor to get the most out of that 780.

yes the highest it hit was 944mhz but i was getting around 60-70 fps this time but still dropping down to 12 fps at certain times

yes when i play battlefield 3 i never drop under 45fps
