Okay I have been looking into Intel's first generation i7 920 and i Can afford that one, but I have also been looking into AMDs FX 6300 and AMD A10-6800K and I can afford all these but with the price of the i7 I can go intel but i want to know if i should go 1st gen i7 or the new AMDs?

I use PC for music production Orchestral symphonic heavy demand on CPU min of 40% load on idle and games and heavy Multi-tasking Internet with up to 14 Tabs at some times.

So what one? and why? and any good mother board MAX budget of 100GBP

Do you already have a good gaming video card? If so, then I recommend the FX-6300 because it's much newer and often faster than the i7-920. Both the i7 and the FX-6300 are faster than the A10-6800K, but you already knew that if you checked the reviews. How much does the FX-6300 cost in GBP? I presume that your 100GBP budget is for the CPU and motherboard only.

Get the 6300.

The money you would save by going the AMD route, on just the motherboard alone, would allow you to buy an aftermarket cooler which would, even if you're not overclocking, keep things much quieter and cooler.

I know I went from AMD Athlon AM3 to Intel 775 The biggest mistake ever! so many problems!

I did overclock my C2D E8200 from 2.66 to 3.5GHz with stock cooler and only a 10C temperature increase.

The AMD FX 6300 is the faster of the two in more than most of the applications I have seen tested. I have both systems and actually recently retired the i7 920 for now. It just could not keep up to the i7 once optimizations were used (SIMD/SSE/AVX).

Of course there is a clock speed difference to take into consideration. A heck of a lot of i7 920s overclock to an avg of 3.8-4GHz. At those speeds it is very competitive with an FX 6300 running at 4.5GHz (the usual avg OC of a 6300) from my experience.

You also should maybe consider the platform age. There will be no new CPUs for LGA 1366 but there will be for AM3+.

Bloomfield is clock for clock faster then the fx 8 cores. The only advantage is that they can over clock a lot higher
