The buyout of ATI and investing in the Fusion architecture was a HUGE gamble that still hasn't seen AMD any fruits of its labor.
By fruits you mean X1 APU, PS4 APU, Trinity, Richland and Kaveri
Which have made them how much money so far? FRUITS=PROFITS. So far NONE. They have trees with NO FRUIT so far. Since the purchase of ATI (heck before) they haven't made a dime, and have only lost billions. So yeah, NO FREAKING FRUIT yet. Perhaps if they stopped giving away games they would make money.
Perhaps if they hadn't spent money on dying consoles (which probably started about 4yrs ago) they'd have a REAL CPU, and better DRIVERS for their gpus. Perhaps they'd already have some ARM socs running around like NV. Nvidia will be on rev 5 by the time they ship REV1! OUCH.
NV's market cap value now DWARFS AMD's. They now are getting close to matching AMD's revenue and don't yet sell CPU's. Just gpu's and socs. NV is about to enter the CPU market (servers and desktops/notebooks), with no debt and making profits which funds R&D not to mention 300mil from intel into 2016. The exact OPPOSITE of AMD's situation. AMD is going to have to borrow money again before Q1 to keep afloat (so said their CFO), which will of course have higher rates as they are junk status now. This is NOT a recipe for profits. Laying off 30% of your engineers is not a recipe for great products (it leads to crap drivers etc). Perhaps management wouldn't be saying they were 2yrs late to the ARM race (I say 3-4yrs, but whatever).

AMD 10yr summary. Lost 6Bil in 10yrs. That's bad right? Lost fabs. Lost austin land, lost cpu race, losing gpu race (no profit=losing, lost market share=losing). We can argue benchmarks all day, but at the end of the day the only thing that matters is market share and profits from that share.
AMD CPU=Losing Billions
INTEL CPU=making billions
AMD gpu=made >80mil.
NV gpu=making ~600mil+ (they are still losing money on Tegra so could be quite a bit higher but you get the point.).
AMD revenue sliding a billion a year for the last 3 years. NV growing. Same with Intel.
AMD share dilution 600mil to 700mil+ (since 2007). AMD assets from 12B to 4B over the same time. I can't come up with a good thing to say about AMD's financials no matter how hard I try and now the people investing in them are having problems (ATIC). They've poured so much money into GF/AMD they now have sent people to MONITOR GF business in house and have delayed Abu Dhabi plans for a fab. At some point if you're backers have troubles backing their OWN stuff, they will be forced to cut you off too. They have no choice.
I could go on but you should get the point already. The picture is NOT rosy.
