SATA III on D975XBX2

SATA 3 (6Gb/s) drives are backwards compatible with SATA 2 (3Gb/s) ports so you should not have any problems.

If your SATA 3 drive is a HDD then your drive will work at its exact same Read/Write speeds on a SATA 2 port as it would on a SATA 3 port.
No HDD can spin fast enough to achieve SATA 3 speeds.

If your SATA 3 drive is a SSD then expect maximum Read/Write speeds in the 275MB/s - 295MB/s range.

Thank you Dereck. Now I can proceed with my new HDD puchase.
