Hello guys wondering if you could help me here, i just installed MSI afterburner and benchmarked my GPU, my framerates in games are pretty high but my temperature on my GTX 670 windforce edition x3 seems worrying as they go above 90 nearly to a 100 degrees, is this normal or bad ?
My case is a CM 690 advanced and as far as i know the cooling in there seems fine.

At the moment its sitting at around 43, and normally stays around those temps but its when i go on a game (always max settings) or on these benchmark tests i get incredibly high temperatures. On the MSI tests i was getting 98 degrees.

Something is wrong. Do you have MSI Afterburner installed? Whats the fan speed?

I do have it installed and fan speed is on 25 at the moment on the auto setting.

Ramp it up to 50% and see how far idle temps come down

Assuming the readings are correct and not a software error, the card is faulty. Though, the card should be turning itself off at 100C, so there is the possibility some settings are off causing the temps to display an offset.

It is on about 36/37 now.

I have a feeling that the stock fan speed is just too low. Go into afterburner settings and create a custom fan curve like the one below

Then test in a game

Unfortunately it's still the same. Starts at about 80 then shoots up to 98 and stays on that temp. :(

Whens the last time you cleaned the card? How many fans do you have in your case?

well i only just got the pc last week, it was custom built by someone, i have one fan at the top of the case, one at the front and one at the bottom of the case and one at the rear end with a water cooling unit attached to the cpu. I mean it feels perfectly cool in the there, i dont see why the graphics card is so hot though.

Definitely shouldn't be that high, my MSI GTX 670 Power Edition doesn't get over 60 on load playing any game.

How many fans? And how are the fans set up.
Positive airflow (intake through side and front, exhaust out the back) is key for cooling of that kind of card since the fans exhaust hot air into the case

I looked at your case info and you should have a fan on the side (120mm) blowing directly at the card. It also says you can put up to 10* in the case. You might have to get a high performance 120mm (maybe a few) to move more air around for it to be cooler.

The temperature you can feel is usually not indicative of how hot the components are, for example if a cooler is not attached properly then you wont feel any heat but the GPU/CPU will be red hot.

I just looked and saw that my front fan is not moving at all could that be a reason why it has reached those temps ? all my other fans are fine, and yes there is one below the gpu directly facing it, one at the rear end, one at the top and one at the front.

Could be a factor considering the one at the bottom is (well should be) the only one bringing in air besides the front, other then that the one at the rear and top should be exhaust fans.

What I would do is see what direction the fans are blowing, if they all are blowing into the case the hot air can't go anywhere. If they are all exhaust, no air is able to enter the case.

And just to be clear there is one on the side panel correct? Or is there one only at the very bottom of the case near the power supply?

There is only a fan at the bottom which is inside the power supply, no other fans on the bottom or on the side panel

I would install fans on every place that there's an available spot for one on that case

Holy crap man, that card is getting no airflow. The one IN the power supply is an intake for just for the power supply.

You want to know how to drop those temps easily? you have two slots on the side of the case you can put 2 120mm fans to bring in cool air and that will directly hit the graphics card with cool air from the room. Fix that front fan to also bring in cool air.

Your graphics card is not getting ANY cool air, so that hot air its releasing causing the air to stay that temperature.

No problem man, just a word of advice for fan installation. Most fans have an arrow on the side housing showing which way it blows air.

Heat rises, so bottow/middle brings air in, rear/top takes hot air out.

Also, check to see if that front fan is even plugged in haha.

Thanks for the information :) !! Also the front fan I'm sure is plugged in as on startup it looks like it is going to move but to get it spinning I actually have to nudge it with my hand to get it started! I don't know why it's doing this, I never noticed it before. Only had the pc just under 2 weeks

I had your card, but I just shipped it out today, I never had that problem before. Mine was @1201.2GHz and 1502.9Ghz on mem. I'd say either add new thermal compound or return it. Turning the fan speed to 50% is a wind turbine. My card used to max out the fans to only like 30ish. Update your BIOS to the latest one. http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4211#bios
I updated mine and noticed my card was OCed a little more and somehow performed better.
