3770k OC BSOD moving from 4.7-4.8

I was able to OC my 3770k to 4.7ghz stable at 1.275v after hours of prime95 average 70C, 80C max. Then I tried 4.8ghz and I would get instant bsod after running prime95. I tried increasing the volts several times all the way to 1.5 and still get bsod after prime. I went back to 4.7 1.275v and ran fine. XMP 1600, [C1E, C State, Turbo] disabled.

Some chips just won't make it that far, especially if you don't have awesome cooling. 4.8 GHz is the kind of the threshold for air-cooling/H60-level to H220/H100i level. If you don't have an H220 or something of similar size, then 4.7 may be the best that you can do. Here is a great guide to read which is specified for the BIOS on your motherboard. Just make sure that no settings are wrong, etc.

Thanks for the insight, I'm planning to get an H80i. I would get an H100i but I would have to mod my case or get a new case.

Don't get an H80i... You'd be just as well off with a good air-cooler... However, it is up to you. In my experience, you either go with an H60 or an H100i. The 140mm vs 120mm in the H80i will not provide a huge performance boost. However, if you're willing to pay, the H80i is still very good.
